2007 Event Schedule
Friday, June 15 at The Historic Plains Hotel
7-9 p.m. Fun, warm-up bee
An informal and fun warm-up bee will be held, where competitors can stretch their spelling skills in preparation for the official bee the next morning. Family members and friends are encouraged to participate and challenge the senior spellers. Dessert will be served.
Saturday, June 16 at The Historic Plains Hotel
8:00 Registration, Welcome, and Review of the rules
9:00 The National Senior Spelling Bee begins with written spelling in Rounds 1 & 2 of the competition, which will be followed by a brief break before Rounds 3 & 4 commence for a total of 100 words.
11 a.m. lunch break
A lunch buffet will be served for $10 per person* or spellers can have lunch on their own at one of the many local eateries within walking distance of the bee.
1 p.m. Announcement of finalists
Finalists advancing to the oral spelling portion of the bee are announced. Rounds commence and continue until a winner remains. There will be an award ceremony immediately following the bee.
*A lunch buffet will be served at the bee. Anyone wishing to partake in the lunch (spellers, family, friends, etc.) can pay $10 per person by cash or check at the bee. Reservations must be made in advance (notice will be sent to all registered spellers in the weeks immediately preceding the bee). |
